Artist Spotlight: Lance

Name: Lance McBrayer @hairsessionsinc
Occupation / Salon Name: Owner / Master Stylist / Product Developer – Hair Sessions, Inc., Boston.
What do you love about the pro beauty industry? Being inspired by the artistry and creativity of so many other creative individuals. Also, that it allows me to branch out in other directions within the beauty industry – I now have my own all-natural bath & body line along with candles.
What is the most meaningful part of your role as a Black artist in beauty? Not only being able to beautify but build the confidence and self-esteem of so many black men and women by letting them feel good about their appearance.
What is fun fact about you? I won my first bodybuilding competition that I entered at the age of 43.
Who is someone that inspires you most? Ted Gibson – he is an African-American stylist that is in the top 10 highest haircut prices in the world. It shows that nothing is impossible for us in this industry. Also, Madam C.J. Walker for her amazing contributions to the industry and her entrepreneurial spirit.
What is your favorite Wella, Nioxin, OPI, ghd, Clairol, Color Charm, Kadus or Sebastian product and why? My GHD iron – I love its technology.
Do you have any tips for those who are uncomfortable servicing textured hair? To first realize the world is getting more and more “textured” and if you want to stay competitive and to make more money than ever (as well as always have clients through any pandemic – lol) take the time to learn how to work with, cut and style textured hair. Your longevity might depend on it.
