Essential Tools for a Flawless Balayage

Essential Tools for a Flawless Balayage

Balayage Paddles, Brushes and lighteners designed for Balayage are important tools for each stylist to have in their arsenal. Regardless of the technique that you use, these tools allow you the ultimate flexibility in a flawless balayage.
A Balayage paddle works multiple jobs in one – not only does it allow you to have a reservoir of product to use while you’re painting, you can also use it to add more saturation on the underside of your subsections. Using a paddle allows you to work cleanly while focusing on each section with enough product to keep you from moving back and forth to the bowl.
Adding a little bit of product directly to your paddle also keeps the section where you want it, and provides more saturation to the hair underneath. Saturation equals lift – when you want the hair the lightest needs to most saturation. In most Balayage techniques, this is towards the ends of the hair.
Depending on the result you’re looking to achieve, there are multiple sectioning options you can use to achieve a beautiful finish. Wella Signature Studio Artist Erik Thrane demonstrates a V shaped subsection in the video here.
Balayage is a surface highlight that gradually blends into full saturation, so make sure you have enough hair in each section to achieve the desired end look. As long as your sections are thick enough, and you paint parallel to the subsection, the product will stay on the surface and won’t bleed underneath. There are many types of brushes that can be used to apply the lightener. Some brushes feature bristles that are cut on a diagonal, others feature a traditional straight line, and there are even some which have a feathered finish. And although placement is key, choosing the right lightener is equally as important.
When it comes to Balayage, choose a lightener that is designed for precision, ease of application and less swelling, such as Blondor Freelights. Blondor Freelights Developer is available in 20 Volume, 30 Volume and 40 Volume and allows you to place Blondor Freelights exactly where you want it for the lift where you need it.
Balayage is the ultimate tool for a personalized color service for your clients. It gives you the freedom to decide where you want to add dimension in the hair. Since it is a visual application, you’re customizing each client at every visit, giving them another reason to stay loyal and you the flexibility to achieve their ever-changing goals.
