Wella Design Team Member, Kathryn Larusso, is known for her blonding and balayage skills. She has a work “smarter not harder” mentality in her salon and shared a quick balayage application technique that is sure to make a difference for your fine hair clients that want brightness, low maintenance, volume, and to keep their length….sound familiar? Kathryn recommends always asking your fine hair clients this question, “On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the overall health of your hair?” And while balayage is great for fine hair types because the dimensional brightness will make the hair appear fuller, she suggests formulating low and slow to respect the health and texture. In this application, she used Freelights + 20 Volume developer.

TOOLS USED:
#ProTips:
- At the nape – This will be a very wide section and you will start the application underneath, so when the hair is pulled up, the balayage looks complete all over.
2. Do not apply to horizontal sections, using triangles and diagonal back sections will provide a smoother transition from front to back.
3. When applying balayage around the face, keep depth in between the points of lightness.
