Fringe Worthy
Canadian hairstylist and Field Signature Artist, Zak Ferguson, hosted an Instagram Live and we were lucky enough to tune in and catch his fringe worthy tips! Zak shares several #ProTips and his 3 simple reasons for beginning a female client’s haircuts with their fringe:
It is the strongest part of the cut.
It will make your client enjoy the cut more.
The fringe is your guide.
SQUARE FRINGE
To reduce weight but keep a strong line, you will want to incorporate graduation.
For thicker hair, you will need to reduce a lot of weight but keep the strength, do this by adding layers into the fringe with high elevation.
Be sure to let the perimeter of the fringe drop so that you keep the line but reduce the weight.
TRIANGLE VS. ROUND FRINGE
A triangular shape is probably the most uncommon but it will allow the client’s eyes to appear more open and higher.
For a round fringe, over-direct to create the shape. Stand and work in one position while you over-direct the hair only.
For the corners to be longer, pull the fringe to the middle to cut.
SIDE SWEEP FRINGE
Over direction and elevation to allow for shorter to longest.
Position your fingers diagonal, parallel to each section.
As you move up, slightly elevate each section higher, following the diagonal section.
CURTAIN FRINGE
Shorter in the middle and gets longer on the sides.
The middle is the guideline, you can start by cutting at the bridge of the nose.
Over direct to the middle, each section gets slightly longer than the previous.
