We are rounding out the final week of Hair Loss Awareness Month focusing on hair color and placement with NIOXIN Design Team Member, Seamus McKernan. He demonstrated a technique that he calls “Blended Lights” while using the NIOXIN design principles, he focuses on:
- Gradation – by creating a deeper root
- Adaption – using foils in a non-conventional way
Seamus’ goal is to create dimension without using a large number of foils using Blended Lights. This will create pops of color using a combination of a slice and a weave within one foil to show intentional brightness and blending all at once.
SECTIONING TIPS:
- Pay close attention to the areas of thinning and concern
- Section away the hair above the parietal ridge to separate the fine to noticeably thinning section from the bottom half.
- Use the width of your pinky as a guide for the section size, this will leave depth between the fine weaves that you are creating in the foils.
“Blended Lights will create more intentional lightness where you want to see it and blend into the rest of the hair.”
HIGHLIGHTING TIPS:
- Once you reach the parietal ridge, start incorporating the Blended Lights technique which is the combination of a slice and a fine weave within one foil.
- Diagonal sections will provide more of a blend.
- In the areas where the hair is thinnest and most fine, use fine weaves only, no slicing.
- At the crown of the head, leave a small section out for the vail.
- Your foils on the top should meet up to the sides.
- Microweaves in the top section with Welloxon 10 Volume will offer plenty of lift! Don’t forget to leave a vail at the crown.
WORKING WITH LARGE FOILS:
- Use them only when you want to create a wider section of lightness.
- Be gentle when folding and manipulating the large foil to avoid ripping and slipping.
- Gently use your fingers to press the foil onto the scalp.
COLOR TIPS:
- Creating a shadow root will make the hair appear thicker and more full.
- Formulate the root using Color Touch at two levels lighter than her natural but up to one level darker than the highlights.
- Use Color Touch all-over color to allow her to switch tones throughout the seasons.
