3 Easy Braids You Can Recreate

3 Easy Braids You Can Recreate

International Artist for Sebastian Professional, Omar Antonio, has been braiding hair for a very long time. Omar created two very simple looks and one easy look incorporating cornrow braiding. His 3 #ProTips that have made him a very successful braider and editorial stylist:
  1. Preparing the hair and using the right products is just as important as the end result.
  2. Clean sections at all times.
  3. Watch people braid! In real life or on YouTube and then practice over and over again.

LOOK #1 – (Simple) Technique

Dragon Braid is a collection of 5 ponytails from the front to the crown. Work in very clean sections, the sections and elastics will show in the finished look. Creative Tip: Create contrast by using a dark color elastic on light hair.
  • Prep: Blow Dry smooth with Mousse Forte and a round brush. *Omar gave this look an undercut and we love it!
  • During: Use Microweb Fiber, a pea size at a time, to smooth and manipulate the sections.
  • Finish: Expand the shape by lightly pinching and pulling to widen the Dragon Braid. Spray with Shaper from 18-24 inches away.

LOOK #2 – (Simple) Technique

20’s Inspired Braid using synthetic hair and lace for a headband. Works great for short hair with a fringe!
  • Prep**:** Blow Dry loose waves with Mousse Forte, Trilliant, and Dark Oil Silkening Mist.
  • During**:** Used inexpensive synthetic hair to make a medium size braid and sewed it onto a piece of lace to create a headband. Misted the braid and lace with Dry Clean Only.
  • Finish**:** Spray with Shaper from 18-24 inches away and manipulate the waves to add more texture. Add more volume to create a fuller shape at the crown with a rattail comb.

LOOK #3 – (Easy) Technique

Festival hair that is half structured  + half deconstructed.
  • Prep: Blow Dry smooth with Whipped Crème, Trilliant, and Dark Oil. Set waves into the bottom section with a curling iron and hold with a hair net while braiding.
  • During**:** Create a small cornrow using Microwave Fiber + Dark Oil for smoothness and shine. Once properly secure, the texture is built by separating the ponytail in half and pushing toward the base. Spray Shaper to begin forming the messy bun. Create balance by doing the same on the opposite side.
  • Finish: Release the bottom set and comb out the wave pattern. Spray with Shaper and Dark Oil Silkening Mist for texture and shine.

Braiding #Goals

Omar shared some inspirational braids that he created from an Avant-Garde editorial look and New York Fashion Week. We are inspired!
