Vivid Colors & Lifting Properly

Vivid Colors & Lifting Properly

Robin Spaulding is a stylist and Wella Professionals Brand Educator, her passion is vivid colors! She is most excited that so many of her clients are working from home now and that they are wanting to go lighter and brighter! The trend she is seeing more and more? 90’s color blocking fringes with pops of color and smokey hues like purples and pinks.

First, Consult:

  • Sit with them and discuss face to face versus talking through the mirror.
  • Listen fully about their lifestyle.
  • What is their maintenance commitment?
  • How often do they wash their hair?
  • What shampoo and conditioner will they use?
  • What are their objections? Colors they dislike?

Discuss the Lightning Process:

  • Clients need to know that the lightening process is a journey
  • You will recommend timing, cost, and end results based on a strand test only.
  • Remind them that their color will wash out to the Level that you lifted it.
  • Depending on the vivid colors they want will determine the level of lightness you will need to lift their hair:
For example:
Pink and Yellows have to be on a Level 9/10
Purple and Blues will appear muddy on Level 6/7
Robin demonstrates a GREAT visual of Color Fresh Create to show (approximate) results over underlying pigment (construction paper) from orange to pale yellow:

Robin’s #PROTIPS:

  • Document your colors! When you discover a great formula, you want to save it.
  • Mix the Color Fresh Create in a notebook to test, it’s a great visual exercise.
  • Always use preguard!
  • Start with fine and small panels in the fringe at the receding line.
  • Don’t section any larger than a peace sign with your pointer and middle finger.
  • Heavy saturation is a must or you will have spotting color.
