What do you love about the professional beauty industry?
I love the history of styles repeating themselves. The industry is very innovative and within the “Art of Hair,” you can ALWAYS find bits and pieces of culture!
What is the most meaningful part of your role?
It is a dual meaning: I get a chance to not only assist beauty stores in their growth numerically, but I get a chance to build meaningful rapports with individuals that are on the front lines of customer service. I also get the opportunity to educate the surrounding communities about our brands, especially those seasoned stylists. I find it really important to share product knowledge to those populations that get left out, yet are faithful users of the brands.
What is a fun fact about you?
Call me the male version of Old Mother Hubbard….Old Father Hubbard, because I have 13 godchildren! (Does anyone want to take them off of my hands?)
Who is someone that inspires you most?
Many people inspire me. I normally say my father and mother, but on this one, I have reach for one of my favorite artists, Nina Simone. I love one of the quotes she used during an interview: “You can’t help it. An artist’s duty, as far as I am concerned, is to reflect the times.” This is simple yet profound. I have found myself embodying this in past hair shows and the work that I do outside of Wella on my personal time. As an artist, we have a platform where people listen and adhere to your advice. USE IT to INSPIRE and CHANGE!!
What is your favorite product and why?
My favorite product is the Elements line! I love Elements because I do a lot of work with natural hair clients and it can be used as a universal product. It is very gentle yet cleansing. I absolutely love the Leave-In Conditioner Spray, especially after doing a color or general styling. It leaves the hair silky and shiny!
