Wella Design Team Artist and Columbus, Ohio salon owner Nicole Revish shares her secret to double process lightening with Blondor Base Breaker by Wella Professionals. Base breaking is a service that lightens the natural hair in between or on the same day as a highlight or balayage technique. Base breaker technology helps soften hair re-growth while blending natural hair with lightened hair. In her Instagram video, Nicole powers through her appointment with a new color correction client, improving coolness in tone, enhancing lightness, and establishing more consistency in the formula for future appointments. The result of this hair transformation is undeniably eye-catching and one of Nicole’s favorite for a fall or winter blonde.
Service Prep
Product Used:
Nicole began the service prep by applying Protection Cream to the hairline. The Wella exclusive cream helps protect the skin from color absorption and includes skin-protective ingredients like vitamin E and orchid extract. Service Skin Protection Cream is both easy to apply and remove.
First Process
Products Used:
Nicole moved on to the first process by applying Blondor Base Breaker Extra Cool / 86 to the roots. This product is an intense pearl violet designed to neutralize yellow-orange tones. Blondor Base Breakers are specifically designed for an express base breaking service while gently depositing tone in up to 10 minutes. After a quick and clean application to the roots, Nicole used the same Base Breaker shade, Extra Cool / 86, to tone and brighten her client’s mid-lengthens and ends. Blondor Base Breaker allows you the freedom to boost natural hair by up to 1 level while counteracting unwanted shadow and warmth.
***Blondor Base Breaker Mixing: Always mix 1:1 with Welloxon Perfect developer; Example 30g of Blondor Base Breaker + 30g of Welloxon Perfect Crème Developer Pastel 6 Volume (1.9%). for between 0.5 and up to 1 level of lift and soft tone, or Welloxon Perfect Crème Developer 10 Volume (3%) for 1 level of lift and a more intense tone.
Second Process (Same Day)
Products Used:
After cleansing and blow-drying her client’s hair, Nicole highlighted with BlondorPlex powder lightener. To maintain control and achieve a higher level of lightness, Nicole highlighted with foils which resulted in strikingly cool blonde dimension. BlondorPlex contains built-in bond builders that help reconstruct inner hair bonds during lightening resulting in 97% less breakage. BlondorPlex also contains anti-yellow molecules and allows professionals to achieve up to 7 levels of lift. Nicole completed the blonding process with Wellaplex N°2 Bond Stabilizer on damp hair for 10 minutes. Nicole toned this beautiful highlight with her favorite toner for fall/winter blondes, Color Touch 9/97. The outcome of this double process is seamless and packed full of high sine.
***BlondorPlex Mixing: Depending on the desired degree of lightening and consistency, mix BlondorPlex powder with Welloxon Perfect 1.9%, 4%, 6%, 9% or 12% in a ratio of 1:1.5 up to 1:2
***Color Touch Mixing: Always mix Color Touch with Color Touch Emulsion 1.9% or 4%
Future Appointment
To maintain all-over seamless color, Nicole would book her client a 10-minute base breaking service. She would again leverage Blondor Base Breaker Silk Blend Extra Cool /86 Pearl Violet Permanent Hair Color to lighten her client’s natural hair re-growth in between or the same day as her next highlight. Continuing to maintain her client’s color with a base-breaking service will soften the light and dark areas of the hair for a more natural yet bright look and feel, all while being gentle on the hair.
